Steve Douglas, owner of Artists In Rhythm, plays upright and electric basses and guitar. He trained classically for 12 years including 4 years at the University of Michigan, while in high school, and at age 17 toured Europe with the American Youth Symphony. Steve also spent two summers at the renowned Interlochen Center for the Arts before furthering his education at Michigan State University. While still in college he discovered jazz. Steve has played at many resorts in Michigan, Hawaii and Arizona, including the Grand Hotel on Mackinaw Island for then sitting President Ford. He has also performed in operas, Broadway musicals, symphonies, pop orchestras and jazz ensembles. There are very few styles of music that elude him, as Steve is passionate about any good music.
Although Steve received full music scholarships to numerous universities, he ultimately received his BS in Hotel & Restaurant Management, with the intent of combining a career in music and business.
He was a district manager responsible for nine restaurants in the San Francisco Bay area, before joining Saga Corporation. At Saga he was used as a troubleshooter, responsible for turning around numerous large accounts over the course of four years, such as feeding five thousand Bank of America employees every day and managing a staff of eighty. He opened and handled seven food centers for Atari, opened State Farm Insurance in Santa Rosa, Shaklee in San Francisco, and managed a crew through a major strike at Blue Shield. He was responsible for all the food planning of major events at many corporations, a task that serves him well in the music planning business. With his intimate understanding of what it takes to organize a function, he is best suited to work with other planners to help make a wedding, benefit concert or festival go as smoothly as possible.
He is very happy to be finally bringing his music and business acumen together, in an endeavor that provides the very best music for the best events that Northern Arizona has to offer.
